CAISA (Canadian Asian International Student Association) is a club that aims to create a tight-knit community among the Asian student population at Western University by embracing and celebrating our diverse backgrounds.
As an executive member of the media department, I took on the role of creating a design for the 2021/2022 executive team merchandise.
With that said, I used red as the highlighting colour in my design. In many Asian cultures, it generally symbolizes good fortune and vitality.
The koi fish is often said to represent success, accomplishment, and perseverance. It is the focal point of my design, and I wanted our team members to confidently embody these characteristics while wearing the merchandise.
I was heavily inspired by recent streetwear trends, where a simplistic and smaller logo is placed on the front of the hoodie, while a bolder design takes up most of the space on the back.
It was important to me that the team would wear it confidently in public, as if they had picked it out in a store themselves. My goal was to disprove the notion that school club merchandise is generally unfashionable.
